Travertine

New for 2012, we are pleased to announce that we are now carrying a full line of 1 ¼” thick travertine pavers, and matching 2” thick travertine treads. Our travertine is an interesting natural stone suitable for any outdoor project. The various mellow and harmonious colors available can give any backyard the relaxed feel of an “Old World” villa.

The paving stone is tumbled, which softens the edges and leaves a smooth top surface. The occurrence of small holes and natural crystals add further interest to the stone. Travertine tends to be cooler to the touch as compared to other darker stones.

The travertine pavers are available in the standard “Versailles” repeat pattern. Custom patterns and sizes are also offered (depending on availability). The treads/ pool coping are available in the following three standard sizes-

      • 2” x 4” x 1’-0” (with one short end bullnosed)
      • 2” x 12” x 2’-0” (with one long edge bullnosed)
      • 2” x 14” x 2’-0” (with one long edge bullnosed)
      • 2” x 16” x 2’-0” (with one long edge bullnosed)

We can bullnose the opposite long edge for spa/ wall coping if needed.

Longer lengths and widths are available for treads, but the wait time may be prohibitive.

What Is Travertine?

Travertines result from hot spring water percolating up through underground limestone. When the water evaporates, it leaves behind layers of dissolved limestone and other minerals, giving it its banded appearance. The characteristic holes in travertine are the result of trapped gas bubbles; as the gas escapes, crystals form in the cavities. Travertines are generally light-colored beiges and tans, though there are some beautiful, colored Travertines that have resulted from other minerals dissolved by hot water underground.
